Being fat and overweight is unhealthy, period. There are no justifications that you can give for keeping those extra pounds in your body, except maybe if you are aspiring to become a sumo wrestler someday. The problem with most people lies in adhering to the weight loss plan that they have. The first advantage, of course, is that you will become fitter and healthier. Being overweight carries with it a lot of complications. You could suffer from a heart disease and high blood pressure, which are observed to be more prevalent in obese persons.
Cholesterol has been much associated with cardiovascular diseases, but you should know that there are good and bad cholesterols. The bad cholesterols are the ones which cause clogging of the artery, which leads to strokes and heart attacks. Good cholesterol, however, cleans the arteries. So you can start looking at the bad cholesterol level on the foods you eat and cut down on them.
Losing weight lessens your risk of having diabetes. Of all the major diseases, diabetes is one of those which are clearly associated with being overweight. So if you lose weight, you are also lessening your chances of acquiring it. Aside from engaging in a weight loss program, you should also cut down your intake of sugar rich foods.
Slim people have less chances of cancer than overweight people. There are scientific studies that link obesity with certain kinds of cancers. Overweight women are more susceptible to uterus, breast, colon, and gallbladder cancer while obese men are more prone to prostate, rectum and colon cancer.
Being slim also means being more flexible. This will give you more freedom in doing things which an obese person cannot enjoy. So after knowing about these benefits, are you still going to stay overweight?
